Many folks are interested in learning more about indexing because they want to work from home. So why not sell "Tupperware" or lingerie? Why do some choose indexing instead?

Shyness.

Many people turn away from other "work at home" opportunities because they are too shy to sell the product.

Experiencing feelings of shyness at various levels is normal among human beings. Every single person has feelings of shyness in one area of life or another. However, some people do not seem to be shy. Why not?

To answer that, let's get a real clear picture about shyness. I am not a trained psychologist, or anything like that. What follows is simply many years of life observation. After we have a clearer picture of shyness, we'll look at how shyness affects running a freelance indexing business.

You Know the Feeling! Sweaty palms, uncontrolled shaking, clenched teeth, stumbling over words, nausea, lack of appetite. These are just some of the symptoms that can persons experience when they are in the grip of shyness.

Sometimes shyness is caused by serious past events in one's life. Other times, it may be due to a chemical or physical imbalance in the body. Both of these types of shyness need professional help to be overcome. The web sites listed for this month's article may guide a person who suffers from this kind of shyness to the right type of help.

Inexperience and lack of education also cause shyness. If a person lacks sufficient experience and education in dealing with a product, the result is shyness in selling that product. Also, if a person doesn't "believe" in the value of the product they are selling, they will often experience shyness. Knowledge about, experience with, and belief in the product minimizes feelings of shyness. This means before marketing or selling, thorough preparation is required.

Some people bypass certain "work at home" opportunities, but they may not be able to pinpoint their inexperience, lack of knowledge, or disbelief in the value of the product as the source of shyness. It usually just expresses itself as, "Oh, I could never sell that."

If you turn down other "work at home" opportunities, ask yourself, "WHY?"

There is another reason why shyness overwhelms some people. Bluntly put, they are self-centered, self- absorbed, and self-conscious. They focus on the discomforts they are feeling.

Shyness as a Symptom Those are pretty sharp words to say to a shy person. Don't think the words are true? Don't believe me? Let's look at a pretty common scenario outside the business world.
