So, how are your decluttering efforts coming along? Mine seem to be two steps forward, one step back. But, that's the nature of real decluttering. It's not a matter of just throwing today's newspaper in the trash. It's about lifestyle changes, and those take time. So, let's move on.
V is for Vacuum. Like most people, I have a regular vacuum cleaner to vacuum my home. But, I also have a little cordless, battery-operated, upright stick-type vacuum. It's amazing how much it vacuums up, especially considering it has a beater-bar brush. For being a stick, they sure don't make 'em like they used to. I love this. Having this little stick vacuum keeps the office so much cleaner. I can grab it for quick office vacuum touch-ups, without dragging out the big vacuum. Now, if you have a new vacuum that doesn't use bags, or you have easy-to-reach outlets in your office, this might not mean anything to you. But, in my office all the outlets are behind a major piece of office furniture--like bookcases, filing cabinets, and the like--thanks to the room design being made for a bedroom--not an office. Furthermore, the electric is not wired for an office, and with all the equipment I run in here, adding my regular household vacuum to the circuit throws the circuit breaker every time. It pulls more juice than what the circuit can handle with all my equipment on it, as well. Not a good thing. So, I have found this battery-operated stick vacuum to be absolutely wonderful. The little battery sits in a small cradle to recharge. Yes, I had to move my furniture to get the cradle plugged in, but that was only a one-time deal to get the cradle set up. It isn't something I need to do over and over, like I would have to do with a regular plug-in type vacuum cleaner. The little battery doesn't throw the circuit while it's recharging. This is one of those things that has made a big difference in how clean my office stays. I can grab the stick (it's in the closet in my office), toss in the battery, and 15 seconds later my office floor is clean. It makes keeping up the floors so much easier than using the regular household vacuum. And, because I'm a floor nitpick, vacuuming frequently eliminates piles of papers sitting on the floor. The floor stays clear, and it stays clean. W is for Windows and Window treatments. This is difficult for me. I don't like plain windows. They seem harsh. Cold. Yet, as soon as I put a window treatment up, it turns into a dust collector. And, for one window in my office, privacy is an issue. The other window does not have a privacy issue.
