Cleaning Alphabet for Indexers: F-I

F is for Floors. It's hard to keep floors clean, but I've found a couple of tips that have worked for me. I use 2 things--a Clorox Mop (Swiffer will do just as fine), and a stick vacuum-- and we'll talk more at this when we get to the V's--but for now, let's just get to the floor!

Why is stuff stacked up on the floor? Do you need space for this stuff? If you've cleaned out your archives, bookshelves, and clutter that should help create space to put this stuff in. If you need more space, then repeat the steps outlined in the A's, B's, and C's. This will help give you room to reduce the clutter on your floor.

The biggest problem for me was not living within my means. We know what this has reference to financially. But, it can also be a problem space-wise and office-wise, as well. Analyze what the problem is, then work on a solution.

Rarely is just organizing the answer. Most often, the answer lies in parting company with things. We've accumulated more than we have space for, and we think we have to hold on to it all. We don't! Purge everything! Be ruthless! Live within your space means when it comes to your office!

Get those floors cleared off--then, clean the floor!

G is for Garbage. How's your garbage can? Is it handy? Do you use it a lot? Do you empty it daily? What about candy wrappers, empty soda cans, and other garbage? Is the garbage all out of your office?

Amazingly, people will have garbage cans in their office, yet these receptacles are not placed in a convenient-to-use place. Or, the can will look ugly, so they put it out of sight. Or, it's too big so it goes in a spot large enough to accommodate it. Or, it's too small to be really useful.

Analyze your garbage. Seriously! Mine is, well, I'll spare you the gory details, but it's not large huge pieces of stuff. It's "little" stuff. I don't need a huge garbage can. For the rare times I generate large chunks of trash, I just get up from my chair and take it to the main household trash can.

I keep a plastic grocery bag in here for the trash. I have a drawer with two knobs, and the handles of the bag fit perfectly. It's to my right, and very handy.

H is for Highlighters. Do you like to use only certain colors? Do you have to buy them in a pack, and the other colors dry up? Do the highlighters you use dry up because you can't use them fast enough?
