Speed 3

need a different storage system and work space than what they currently have. They need a day planner that is more right-brained oriented. They need to spend a little more money to attend to their visualness, such as colored file folders instead of plain vanilla file folders. They need to declutter and let go.

"An organized desk is the sign of a sick mind."

This is often the motto of creative, right-brained people. You don't need to work in a space that would thrill a left-brained person, but the fact is, the more organized your office is, the faster you will be. You won't spend time looking for things. You will know right where they are. Your thought processes will actually function more clearly. All of this will save you time in the long run.

You might think that a few extra seconds here or there, looking for things, don't amount to much. However, it's the Drop-in-a-Bucket Theory. Those seconds really do add up to minutes each day, and those minutes can add up to hours each month.

I'm a major advocate of both decluttering and organizing. But, if you're looking to build speed, start in the office... not in the kitchen pantry! This is even more critical if you have limited time and energy!! If you can only be obsessive in one room, make it the office, not the kitchen!!!

16. ATTITUDE TOWARD SPENDING MONEY ON THE BUSINESS. (supplies, office equipment to help you move faster, etc)

You might wonder how this attitude can impact your speed. Simple.

If you have back problems, but refuse to spend money on a therapeutic chair, you will not be able to index as many hours per week. This means, while you still might be indexing 10 pages per hour, you can only work 4 hours a day, 5 days a week! That means you might only index 200 pages per week!

However, if you invest in a therapeutic chair, perhaps you can now work 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. This one factor alone might increase your weekly output (hence project speed) by 100 pages per week!

Some people can sit in a comfortable chair for 8 or 10 hours (taking just brief ergonomic breaks), or more, without any problems. Can you imagine their output for the week, just because they invested in a therapeutic chair and have an appropriate footrest?!?

Also, with the electronic capabilities that exist today, many publishers like to send PDF files over the Internet.

Let's say
