Image Archives ...start your own today!

Greetings!

Welcome to my bi-weekly article about great entertainment images on the web. This time, I'll talk a bit about some great image archives that I've discovered, and something everyone should have, a video capture device.

If you're looking for pictures from movies or tv shows, you'd love to find a collection of them. It would be easier than finding a few here, and a few there. The problem is that these archives are surprisingly hard to find. The first one I found a long time ago, was The Sunet ftp archive. It has a ton of stuff. This other great archive has lots and lots of stuff, but it doesn't have thumbnails which is annoying. It also has some PNG images, so be sure that you have the plugin so you can view them. This site lists some image collections, some of which aren't bad at all. The best one I've found though, is the TCD Image Archive. It has a thumbnail version, or a text version, and must have a gazillion pictures in sixteen categories. I only checked the entertainment categories, but take my word for it, this place rocks!!!

Well, even better than finding images online is putting them there yourself. I think everyone who can should put something cool online that wasn't there before. Free webspace is easy to find, so you really don't have any reason not to. One of the coolest ways to get images from movies or tv shows is to do some screen captures using a video capture card. This article at Builder.com is more about using the card to capture video, but they can capture still shots too. As well as capture cards, there is a cool device called a Snappy that captures stills from video. The makers claim that it grabs better quality pictures. One obvious advantage is that it's an external device. That's great for those of us who shudder at the thought of using a screwdriver inside the computer. I think I'd finish with a handfull of leftover parts or something.

Well, I hope that I got you thinking about how you could put some great images online. If you know of any other image collections that I haven't mentioned, feel free to drop me a line at Creed@bigfoot.com, or post your ideas in the discussion area.

Have a good one!

I'm not sure what you mean by "send an image", I always just right click and "Save image as...". I keep all of my images in their own folders. One folder for movies, one for tv, etc.

Have a good on ...

Loved your article. Does it make any difference if you send an image to a floppy disk or if you save it (using just a browser)?
