Time for DVD!

© Creed Stonegate

Greetings!

Welcome to my article about great entertainment images on the Web. In these articles, I try to point you all toward great sites that have lots of entertainment images.

As a huge movie fan, I've wanted a DVD player for a long time. I finally got one a couple of months ago, and now I hardly ever watch video tape anymore. What does this have to do with images you ask? Well, one of the best ways to get high quality pictures is from DVD! If you're not into DVD yet, you're probably skeptical about the huge increase in image quality. Well, I found a site that has some good images from vhs and DVD to compare. Check out DVD vs. VHS and get a really good idea of the quality difference involved! The article also has some great examples of why widescreen is so much better than pan and scan.

That's another thing, when most of us think of image quality, we think of how sharp the pictures are or how good the color is. Well, having a complete image is important too. That's why I'm currently in the process of switching a lot of the images on my site from crappy pan and scan vhs grabs, to high quality widescreen DVD grabs. If you're one of those people who hates "those black bars", or if you just don't understand the difference between pan and scan and widescreen, I've found a site you need to see. DigitalBits.com's Widescreen-O-Rama has the best info on the subject. After seeing their examples, nobody in their right mind (in my not so humble opinion) would ever pick pan and scan over widescreen!

As for how to capture the images, I just hook my dvd player up to my Snappy, pause the movie on the frame I want and save it to my computer! It's easy, and you get great quality images!

Well, I hope I pointed the way to some great image sources! If you'd like to suggest a cool site, or comments or questions about this article, or anything else, feel free to drop me a line at Creed@bigfoot.com, or if you're a member of Suite 101, post your ideas in the discussion area.

Have a good one!
