Celebrities and Scanners . . . gotta love 'em!

Season's Greetings!

Instead of the expected Christmas article, I'm not going to bother. I'm not big on Christmas, so I'll just wish you all a happy winter season, and move on. This time, I'll cover celebrity pictures and scanners.

I usually search for specific shows, or movies, but there are a lot of great sites out there devoted to individual actors and actresses. This article won't even begin to be comprehensive on the subject, but I've found some great sites that I'd like to tell you about. Be aware however, that typing the word celebrity into a search engine will bring up more adult sites than anything else. If you're sensitive to such material, be aware of this.

A great place to start surfing for celebrity pictures is an entertainment news site. My current favorite is Flashers. It calls itself a "Showbiz Photo Cyberzine" and they have lots of celebrity pictures. It's updated every week, so bookmark it and check back. A close second on my list is Jam! It has fewer pictures, but it's updated daily, and it's Canadian. Another decent site is Celebsite. It has a picture of everyone on its list, and links to some good sites for that celebrity. It's worth a look, as is People Magazine's Celebrity Central, which has lots of pictures.

If you're still looking for more, Cinemedia has a huge section devoted to specific actors and actresses.

I usually try to find a cool piece of software to feature at the end of my articles, but this time, I'll cover a great piece of hardware, the scanner. A scanner is a peripheral for your computer that lets you turn real life hard copies into digital files. I have one myself — they rule.

First, you'll want to learn about the different types, quality and prices of scanners. I'd recommend a flatbed scanner; they're affordable without sacrificing quality. Check out this section of ZDNet's site for a ton of information about scanners. If you want to know more, or already have a scanner and want basic instructions and tips, check out Graphics Wiz.

Once you have a scanner, be a good netizen, and share the wealth. If you have a magazine with cool pictures from a movie or show, scan them and make a site (free web space is easy to find), or send them to the author of a related site. The more cool images that people put online, the better the Web gets, and the easier it gets for me to write these articles. By the way, if you're a new reader and like what you see, be sure to let your friends know about the place. Also, be sure to post your comments here or e-mail me with any input you have. I'd love to hear from you.
