Pennsylvania German Fraktur

Sarah Miller
Later, in the nineteenth century, other schoolmasters took up the art and designed bookplates for printed hymnals, Testaments, and other devotional books. In this way, and due to Dock’s influence, fraktur flourished in this community. “These vibrant treasures were cherished by the children, safeguarded in family Bibles, and passed from one generation to the next.” The colorful illuminated fraktur are now housed in the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville, Pennsylvania.
