Did you notice there was no awards preview this year? No draft preview? No expansion preview? No finals preview? What's the moral? Learn from your mistakes. My mistake? Dumb predictions. It seems whenever I predict someone to do good, I jinx 'em. And I don't want anybody breaking down my door trying to kill me because I cost them a good contract or that award that's eluded them their whole career. I did have predictions for the expansion draft. 2 out of 26 ain't bad! I remember thinking Brian Finley would be perfect at 5th. I was one off. I kept saying here comes Shvidki till he got red at me for jinxing him. I kept saying here's where Michael Zigomanis fits in. He fit in alright, the next round! I waited a few hours to see 42nd ranked Scott Cameron go 185th.
Also, another reason for no draft preview, the Sedin twins. After the Eric Lindros fiasco, I've learned that GMs see they have a royal flush, know the player has a pair a deuces, so the GM folds. No one would take the Sedin twins separately, so I knew a trade would be in the works, but who? Since no one could possibly know that, you can't preview the draft. Brian Burke made Bob Mackenzie look like an idiot. Actually, Bob Mackenzie didn't have TSN this year, so he couldn't predict (translation: read off his computer screen) that Vancouver pulled that trade. So let's look at this:
Don't ask me about the trades, I'm still confused. The only Thrashers I predicted: Trevor Kidd, and Kelly Buchberger. Wayne Gretzky, Lady Byng Trophy. Maybe if Doug Gilmour can forgive him, I should too. Then again, Gilmour's in Chicago and I'm still without seeing a Cup win. If you've ever wondered how Gretzky keeps such a calm temper on the ice, he gets goons to stop him and do his dirty work. I figured it out after thinking about a fight I once saw him get in. BTW, Jaromir Jagr. The one name that makes Wayne Gretzky's records nervous. He's like Ken Griffey Jr. It's still early in their careers, but I think they can break those big records, for Mario Jr. the goals and points marks, for Griffey the homer mark. Dallas won the Cup in 6. What happened? With the high calibre of their superstars doing the scoring and everybody else holding off the opponents, if the scorers (Modano and Hull) get hurt, the defence does their job, but nobody does those guys' job. If those 2 stayed healthy, it would've been a sweep. Go To Page: 1 2
