Introducing the Coping With Hypothyroidism Course

© Deanna Couras Goodson

I'm so excited to announce my Coping with Hypothyroidism course here at Suite University. I've been working hard on this course for several months now. If you are looking to learn more about hypothyroidism, this is a great place to start.

In this course, you'll learn:

  • the basics of hypothyroidism.
  • what the thyroid does and why it's so important to the metabolism.
  • the difference between hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism
  • what disorders are related to this condition and how to distinguish between them.
  • the symptoms of this condition.
  • what the difference between T3, TSH and T4 is so that you can ask for the appropriate tests from your doctor.
  • how to both understand your tests results and feel empowered to ask for further follow-ups and second opinions in the event that you need them.
  • more about treatment options including medication and alternative therapies.
  • how weight loss can be especially challenging for the hypothyroid patient.
  • I talk about related conditions such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Depression, Fibromyalgia, Lupus and more. I also get into the low-fat vs. low-carb diet debate. In so doing, I delve into some of the more popular diet plans such as Atkins, South Beach and Weight Watchers (to name a few). I bet you'll be surprised where I stand on this issue.

I'm also very honest about my struggles with this condition and with weight loss. It's not easy living with a chronic illness. I try to offer some advice on how you can communicate with your doctor better and take charge of your health care.

The biggest point of this course is that No one cares about your health more than you do. I really believe that. I also believe that in order to get the best care, each of us needs to feel empowered in handling and become educated about what ails us.

There's also a glossary of thyroid related terms to help you figure out what it all means. I'll also let you know what the best books (in my opinion) are out there. They'll tell you how to handle hypothyroidism like a pro.

Need support? Well, I'll give you some tips on how to find a great support group and some resources to get you hooked up with one. You'll even get some hints on how to cope with the wealth of information that's out there on the internet about this (and other) conditions.

I like to refer to this course as 'one-stop-shopping' for all your hypothyroid needs. Of course, I am biased. If you do decide to enroll, I'd love to know what you think of it. You can email me at panndyra@suite101.com or sound-off in the discussion area. I am always happy to have your feedback.
