Introduction To MeIn my case, I was found to have low thyroid function at this point and I was put on a course of medication. I use Synthroid, in conjunction with the antidepressant Effexor. I continue to have my blood levels checked every few months. I have learned that I have to manage my condition. I need to get enough sleep. I have to eat right. Well, I try to anyway. For me, that means sticking to a lower-carb, low-fat, very low-sugar approach. I can't say that the weight I've gained has flown off. It hasn't. I still struggle with it, but I am learning new tips and tricks to deal with my condition every day. I will post information here and look to you, my readers and co-travelers on this path, to provide suggestions that work for you. Weight loss is highly individualized, but as long as we keep an open mind, open heart and free spirit about the idea, we can work together. Another challenge I face is that I don't just have hypothyroidism. I have also received diagnoses of Depression and Fibromyalgia. I am finding more and more information that the three can be related. This article provides some compelling information to that effect. I also can't say that my thyroid function is normal or perfect. My tests are normal, but I still am sensitive to the cold, my hair feels brittle and doesn't grow as fast as it used to, my nails break easily, I am tired, lethargic and depressed. Of course, that can change depending on the day, my hormones, or the weather, as my supportive husband likes to joke. Unfortunately, with my conditions being as they are, it's hard to tell which is causing what to occur. My doctor is my co-manager of these diseases and my therapist is a sounding board. My family provides a good reality check and life has its own reminders. I am a firm believer in support and hope to help you find support if you don't have it and ask, if you do, that you'll share your resources with us. Overall, I hope you will find this community to be honest, educational, supportive and kind. I strive to bring you articles that will inform and inspire you. Some days, it's harder than others to live with this condition, but you can live well with this disease and any related disorders you may have.
