What You See Is What You Get

This article was previously published at Holistic Alternatives, by Darlene Cheek. "I procrastinate"... "I never get things finished"... "I'm just not motivated"... "My goals seem so far away"... "Maybe I'm just not focused"... "If I had more self-confidence, maybe I could do it"... Does this sound familiar? The key is "If you can SEE it, you can HAVE it!" One of the most difficult things to overcome in reaching our goals is self-confidence. You have to at least feel like you can accomplish something in order to do it! I am a firm believer in affirmations. Immediately after reading this article, I want you all to write a list of at least ten (10) things that you like about yourselves. Why? In one of my first articles, "Hypnotherapy & the Self-Esteem", I talk about negative messages we receive all through life, usually starting in our childhood. It takes ten (10) positive messages to replace one (1) negative message in our subconscious mind. So if you have trouble making the list of things you like about yourself, you can start by making a list of your negative messages and then write ten (10) positives to each negative message. For example: Message #1: "You can't do anything!" - would possibly be turned into - "I am intelligent, I can do anything, I am a success, I am strong, I am reliable, I am motivated, I am talented, I am skilled, I am dedicated, I am capable." An excellent way to make sure that you receive your affirmations every single day is to make your list and cut the list into strips of each positive message that you've written down. You can put these in a paper bag or even make a nice "affirmation box" that is decorated. Each day, reach into your affirmation bag/box and pull out an affirmation and read it to yourself 10 times. You can also do this whenever you need a boost of self-confidence during the day. You can tape the affirmations to your mirror, the refrigerator, your nightstand... anywhere that you will see them several times a day. Why does this work? Imagine for a moment that your subconscious is a file room, and there's a little person up there that we'll call the "file clerk" running back and forth getting messages for you when you need them. The things that you need on a daily basis are kept up front in this file room so that the poor little file clerk doesn't run his/her legs off all day. So, if you are using the positive messages instead of the negative ones, the positive ones are up front... while those nasty negative messages are laying in an old banker's box in the back room with dust all over them!
