Life's traumas strike and this is inevitable. No one asks to be victimized. The subject of abuse is hard to cover without facing sad facts. However, what I know and do want to share with you is that abuse can be instantly thrown on you, your family or maybe upon one of your friends. The first thing you may find yourself doing is asking 'why did this happen?' Well the truth is that there are one hundred and two ways to ask 'why.' However, there are not one hundred and two ways to answer why. There are not always understandable answers regarding the subject of Munchausen.
One of the reasons I love being a contributing editor for Suite101.com here on RoseMeade's Wellness Nook is to provide society with as much of the 'why' as I possibly can about different health issues. In order to do a thorough job, I find it my duty to keep up with the health news. The news lately is covering the Munchausen subject more than ever. So, I took the time this month and researched avenues of providing up-to-date information to our visitors... at least as much of the 'why' that I find possible about Munchausen. A shocking fact seen on several sites was that most professionals are not as educated and informed as they need to be on this rare problem that strikes and abuses children and parents alike. From a doctor's report that I read via the Internet, I learned that another research believed that Munchausen was a pattern of child abuse by parents (98% of 117 cases were mothers). This report stated that these parents were people who fabricated or induced illness into or onto their children. These abusing parents sought usually unnecessary medical treatment for their children. Repeatedly, the mother would take them to a doctor or hospital. Over and over, the parent sought medical help for a child and sometimes more than one child at a time. The press reported mothers who actually ended up with a death of more than one child before investigations actually were started. |
