The Secret Garden: Scripture tells us about this garden several times. Genesis 2:8 "And the Lord God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed." Genesis 3:8 "And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking to the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife had themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden." The Great teacher in John 18:1 spoke these words, "He went forth with His disciples over the ravine of the Kidron, where there was a garden into which He Himself entered, and His disciples." John 19:41 speaks of "Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one had yet been laid." Kings 2:12-2:14.

The bible contains fifteen very strong mentions of prayer and these mentions are actually instructions on how to pray. While I was terminally ill, I began to read the bible to find out how to pray. After all, I was not getting well and I thought this must be because I was praying incorrectly. As I studied each of the fifteen mentions, my life began to gain a belief that it was going to be an important tool for me to be able to get well. At the time, I started this 'class time' with God each day; I was almost an invalid. I was on permanent disability from my work and was receiving 60% of my salary in order to maintain my life. I lived alone, except for my pets. I truly believed the world and my lifestyles had definitely kicked me down. Life seemed impossible to deal with. It became clear to me that faith was going to have to be a key to my healing. Faith is a necessary tool in this Secret Garden just as pen and paper would be a necessary tool while attending school where we learn to read and write. Faith in this Secret Garden can be learning to think positive. The faith built in this garden can learn to be blind to impossibilities and deaf to doubt. The Secret Garden Faith could be a belief that the Great Teacher meets you here on a daily basis to teach you how to get well. An awakened ear, a reverent and quiet heart along with an open-minded spirit is necessary. Just as we go to school each day and designate a certain amount of time towards allowing a teacher or professor to instruct us; so too, we can go to our garden.
