The problem presentation over... next we will move to discussing the solution. The good news is there is a solution. The beginning of the solution has to be a hypochondriac actually searching into his/her history. Start locating times in your past when you were pushed into believing you did not measure up. Find in your life when you felt no matter what you did you were just not getting the attention needed to make you feel worthwhile.

It is easy to see how Randolph escalated into his rage by his upbringing. Can you understand the process Randolph had to go through in his fifties in order to be healed of hypochondria? Can you understand Randolph needed to stop wanting compassionate attention? Yes, compassionate is the key word. The behavior of seeking compassion is paramount in all hypochondriacs. Compassion is sought in order to replace the feeling and the need of love. In fact, compassion becomes even more important a result than love. Although, if hypochondriacs sought love instead of compassion, health would come to them.

Laying the groundwork of these characters with each of my articles on hypochondria will be helpful to those who are seeking health. Denial will rear its ugly head up to those who want to stay on the cycle of staying ill and developing a mind set to still get attention from those around them by discussing their next set of symptoms or next set of prescriptions. What my challenge is to those who may be reading this is - see if you can go one day... then two days... and so on without discussing any component of your health. See if you can sit down and have a conversation with another human being without telling them how you feel.

My challenge to you is to take one day and do not discuss your symptoms - do not discuss your pain or any part of your last doctor's visit. If you are hypochondriac you will find this a fairly hard task. Make a journal of how your emotions react to not being able to talk about yourself by discussing your health. Write in your journal how often you wanted to talk to a person about your medicine or your illness. Why? Why do all of this? Because for years you may have been told you make yourself ill, or you help your illnesses along. Most hypochondriacs do not believe this. What this process of choosing not to talk about health issues does is it begins to point out to the ill person that they spend much of their time focusing on their health and sharing it with others. This sharing it with others keeps the process going. This talking about the symptoms, the talking about the doctor visits, what the nurse said, etc. keeps the belief process going that you are ill.
