The Healing Power of Forgiveness

Co-writer, Dimple McInvale and RoseMeade come together in order to share the wonders of how forgiveness provides permanet healing. Dimple shares about her childhood in Alabama. She also brings light to the subject of how battered wifes can suffer hypochondria, as well as bitter anger.

As a child growing up in rural Alabama, I can remember being afraid to go to go to sleep nights for fear my mother would leave. My fear also was that the next day I would be alone. One of my memories involves my father being in one of his rages. He threw a piece of broken mirror at my mother and it stuck up in the top of her head. That night, she left walking, tugging a very small little girl along with her. As a senior adult today, I can tell parents the horrible impression that abuse leaves on the minds and emotions of children.

Just before I entered school, at age six, I would fake headaches in order to get attention. My goal was to get someone to love and hold me. It is my belief that even in homes where there is no physical abuse, the screams of obscenities and negative words tarnish a child’s esteem. What I am going to say is that I do not advocate for all battered women.

My mother, who was a Christian lady, would forgive and forget the things that happened the day before. Then she would return home after leaving in the fit of an argument and give my father another chance to change his life. Mother would pray that God would forgive my father. The bible is full of stories of the act of forgiveness breaking down strong holds in our own life.

One day, I heard a pastor in a Baptist church in Atlanta, Georgia saying that he had asked a lady who was dying with cancer if there was someone in her life that she was holding bitterness toward. The pastor also wanted to know if there was someone in her life that she was unwilling to forgive. She answered, "Yes." The woman and the pastor prayed that she would find it in her heart to forgive so that she could heal.

By sharing this article with you, I am able to portray a spiritual side of healing in order to show you how to let go of the past. The main reason healing comes when you let go of the past, is because it shows you a way for you to move forward. Letting go brings a New Life and a New Beginning. Too often in my life, I have replayed the tapes in my mind of past hurts from people.
