Restaurants in Budapest

Vaci Street
Part Two

Budapest offers its guest outdoors opportunities as well. Budapest's green territories offer traditional garden style atmosphere in Hüvösvölgy, in the City Park or in Margaret Island. The Pest side of the city has some areas with restaurants, pubs and cafes with outdoor opportunities. One of them is along Andrassy Street between Oktogon and Erzsébet Square and Liszt Square, which is one of the most popular places for young people. The second area is in the heart of the city at Vörösmarty Square and along Váci Street, where visitors find hundreds of table and chairs. When you walk on the bank of River Danube in Dunakorzo between Chain Bridge and Elisabeth Bridge, you can find many outdoor opportunities (restaurants and cafes) and many rocking boats along the water's edge with drink and dine possibilities.

At least I would like to show you any confectioneries and cafes.

Gerbeaud Cafe & Confectioneries

The legendary Gerbeaud, in the heart of Budapest, is one of the largest, most traditional, and most famous cafe-confectioneries in Europe. The cafe was established by Henrik Kugler in 1858 and expanded by its later owner, Emil Gerbeaud, and by 1990 was already world-famous. Lovingly renovated in 1997, Gerbeaud shines with the cultured nostalgia of its original days: rich plaster work, magnificent chandeliers, marble tables, lavish fine wood panelling, and brocade wall coverings that characterise the elegant, yet comfortable atmosphere of this home of tradition. Gerbeaud's specialities include famous cakes, such as Eszterházy and Dobos tortes, as well as all kind of cream cakes, extravagant bakery goods and exquisite ice creams. If you are there don't miss trying the Gerbeaud Cake as well.

Hauer Confectioneries

The Hauer was a traditional name in Budapest since the begin of the 20th century. Its cakes were well known all around the city. Since many years it was closed, but in September 2002 opened its rooms again with many original furniture, new private room and its traditional products and services.

Ruszwurm Confectioneries

Confectioner Ferenc Schwabl started his business in 1827 at 7 Szentháromság utca, in the Buda castle, and the cosy, long-established, but not luxurious sweets shop has been functioning at the same place continuously. Nowadays the confectioner's is one of the most popular sights of Budapest, the house and the interior are protected monuments. Today the shop offers only its own made cakes, preserving the traditions. I offer you to visit its website http://www.ruszwurm.hu , because you can find there lots of interesting information and nice pictures of its products with recipes.
