National Parks in Hungary
I would like to show you Hungarian National Parks, where you can discover lots of interesting and rare plants and animals. In National Parks make sure to take the colour coded and educational trails and the bicycle trail. I hope you will visit one or more of them when you visit Hungary. Bükk National Park The Bükk National Park was established in 1977. It preserves the natural flora, fauna and the cultural values of the Bükk Mountains. The 43,200 hectare area has a forest cover of 97 %. In accordance with the great variety of topographic and climatic circumstances, there are several unique and rare wildlife species in the mountains. More than 900 caves are known. The St Isván and Anna caves let visitors get close to the underground world. The Ipolytarnoc Palaeontological Site Nature Conservation Area, which also belongs to the Bükk National Park Directorate, got the European Diploma in 1995. In 1989 the UNESCO recorded Hollokö village, situated within the boundaries of the Hollokö Protected Landscape Area, among the World Heritage Sites. Interesting places: Ipolytarnoc Palaeontological Site in Ipolytarnoc; Regional Folklore House in Hollokö and Boldogkövaralja; Anna and St István Caves in Lillafüred; Arboretum in Erdotelek; Narrow gauge railways in Lillafured, Szilvasvarad and Felsotarkany. Balaton Uplands National Park http://www.bfnpi.hu/ http://www.balaton.hu/ The Balaton Uplands National Park, extending from the Tihany Peninsula to the marshlands of Kis-Balaton, was established in 1997. It extends over 56,000 hectares. The geyser cones formed by volcanic activity on the Tihany Peninsula represent a geological value on a world scale. The small basins of the Balaton Uplands have preserved valuable marsh meadows with unique botanical species. The volcanic mountains of the Káli and Tapolca Basin draw attention with their unusually interesting appearance and rock formations. The so-called "stone seas" which have preserved the fossilised sand ripples of the Pannon Sea, are world famous geological attractions of the Káli Basin. The vine hills at Lesence, with belong to the Keszthely Mountains, offer wonderful scenery backed by exceptionally diverse forests right to the Zalaszánto Basin. Kis-Balaton is an internationally renowned bird sanctuary. Interesting places: Loczy Cave in Balatonfüred; Geological Demonstration Site in Monoszlo; Regional Folklore House in Vörs; Buffalo Reserve in Káplnapuszta; Arboretum in Zirc; House of Forests in Bakonybél. Aggtelek National Park http://www.anp.hu/ The Aggtelek National Park was established on the Hungarian part of Aggtelek and Slovak Karsts, an area uniquely rich in cultural and natural values. The National Park situated in 20,000 hectares. In 1995 the caves of the area were listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of the most endeared treasures is in Baradla Cave, which is the biggest and most magnificent cave in the country. The National Park Directorate offers 1, 2, 5 and 7-hour cave tours in the Baradla Cave and other spectacular tours in the Vass Imre and Beke Caves. Visitors are invited to join guided walks in the village of Josvafö, and special guided tours (botanical, zoological and ecological tours) in the area of the National Park.
