Bridges of Budapest
According to a well-known story, when the four stone lions were unveiled in 1852, a boy discovered that lions have not tongues. Some people aid that the sculptor jumped into the Danube. The simple truth is that he offered a bet for lying lion's tongue is not visible. The sculptor (Marschalko) proved his truth in the Zoo Park. A tunnel was made under the Castle Hill to help the traffic of Buda. According to an old joke the Chain Bridge was push into the tunnel if the water was rainy. The bridge was rebuilt in 1915, when the steel structure was fastened and the bridge was made wider. At the end of the World War II the Chain Bridge was blow up by German Army. The bridge was rebuilt and reopened on the 20th of November 1949, the centenary of the bridge.
