Ferenc Liszt
Ferenc Liszt was the outstanding 19th century musician, both as composer and interpreter. As a virtuoso pianist he was considered the best of his age. Liszt was born in 1811. As an infant prodigy he filled European audience with wonder. He had the first great success in Pest when he was 12. The cosmopolitan artist came back to Hungary in 1838 after the large flood when River Danube demolished half of Pest. During his helping concert round Liszt discovered the original Hungarian folk-music. In the so called Reform era Liszt became 'Hungarian' again. He took a found for a Hungarian Musical Institute in Pest. The Hungarian Rhapsodies are dated into this time. Between 1848 and 1861 Liszt was the first court conductor of the prince of Weimar. He made Weimar the centre of music. Liszt helped such young composer starting out on their career as Hector Berlioz, Richard Wagner and Robert Schumann. His famous works from that period are Dante symphony, Faust symphony. Liszt made friends with Wagner, who later became his son in low. In 1867 he was ordaining in Rome. If you see his old age picture you can find that Liszt always wears cassock. http://www.lisztmuseum.hu/ His other large work are Mass of Esztergom (for consecrate Cathedral of Esztergom), Misse Choralis (for crown Joseph Franz I king) He was the first chairman of the Music Academy of Budapest. Liszt died in 1886, in that year when the Statue of Liberty was inaugurated in New York. Some famous work was born with help of Ferenc Liszt. After invention of phonograph Bela Bartok and Zoltan Kodaly had collected living authentic Hungarian folk music. They described songs, dances and music of Hungarian and surroundings nations. On the basis of their work had born a European modern music feed on folk-music. Bela Bartok Bartok was born in 1881. He was the best known Hungarian musical genius of the 20th century. Bartok was discovered with interpreting H-moll sonata by Liszt. Critical moment of his life was acquainted with original Hungarian folk-music in 1905. Bartok searched for folk-music which kept its ancient characteristic and he expected the renew of modern music. Bartok's dramatic works (1910-1920) are, Carved Prince, The castle of the blue bearded prince, The wonderful mandarin.
