Everything began a quarter of a century ago, when tourist and cultural experts planned to do something to attract more people to Hungary from abroad - also in springtime, when it was a dead season. In the first years there were interesting concerts, exhibitions, and theatre events, but later the events began to attract more and more famous artists who actually wanted to go to Hungary. Besides international interests, these events attracted more and more Hungarian visitors to the capital too. About a decade ago, the festival opened and joined the many county festivals in the larger towns of Hungary, and these offer the same high quality cultural programmes for regions. The Budapest Spring Festival focuses mainly to the classical culture, while the Budapest Autumn Festival offers programmes for those people who rather prefer modern arts.
As for this 25th Budapest Spring Festival, which is already within the best 25 festivals worldwide, it will be the greatest attraction on the series of the last 25 years. It will offer orchestral and church concerts, chamber evenings, opera, operetta and musical performances, exhibitions in art galleries and museums, not to mention the wide range of music events from traditional folk music to jazz.
The festival will be an opportunity to open the brand new National Concert Hall, which is situated next to the new National Theatre on the bank of the Danube.
