This year, things here seem very different somehow...I have multitudes of hummingbirds of all sizes! And I can't help wondering if perhaps all we have learned, all we have improved on has in some small way helped to strengthen their numbers. At least I would like very much to think so. At first all I saw were tiny ones whose feathers looked ruffled and bodies very thin. Now I am also seeing unusually big ones. All fat and plump with plumage so bright it is dazzling! That makes me feel much relief! But still, they all seem starved! They eat constantly and fight aggressively as if afraid to share even a nibble!
It is wonderful to have them back! I feel like a child at christmastime! I want to squeal with delight at each sighting! And there are many, it is amazing! Already I have had to refill all my feeders twice!
The bluebonnets and evening primrose are in full bloom! As far as the eye can see sprays of color fill the landscape. Bluebonnets with dots of fuschia, red and gold in just the perfect spot as if God has painted a beautiful picture in Celebration of Spring! Field after field, seems to come alive with no consistency in pattern, as if the Painter's hand has shaken the paint from His brush over the whole area! And nothing is more lovely than seeing the vast fields of blue dotted with red and gold with tiny hummers flitting happily about, feeding contentedly!
I too, am contented, as I watch, mesmerized once again! My fascination once again renewed for a season.
