I saw my first hummingbirds today, March 28th! Dozens of them all showing up at once! I got so excited I almost broke my neck filling the feeders with fresh nectar!
What a wonderful site! They've come a long way to visit us, and the miles of travel really shows! Some of them (most of them) are very thin and tiny! Motherly instincts take over and I wish that I could cram the nectar down them quickly to fatten them up! Somehow they seem so much smaller than usual, and I can't help wondering what all they have been through this year? They had not been here long when severe storms broke out all over the place. Hail as big as softballs, thunder, lightning, and 60 mph winds inundated them! Tornados touched down all around us, doing massive damage to Fort Worth, Texas, and I feel so sad that they were received here with such a thunderous welcome! The storms took place over night, and I couldn't help worrying about the tiny hummers. As soon as daylight broke I dashed out to check on them...I will of course never know how many were hurt or killed...but there are still many here! And once again I am reminded of what marvelous little wonders these tiny creatures are that they can endure such harsh weather! Thank you God for these tiny treasures! What a site, what a role model they are! Go To Page: 1
