Human Rights Educator Network in Indonesia

MAIN OBJECTIVE

Expanding human rights education in Indonesia quantitatively and qualitatively.

OBJECTIVES

· Accelerating information, educational material, theory and idea exchanges on human rights education. · Creating a comprehensive inventory among human rights institutions and educators. · Establishing a meaningful lobby together in developing human rights education policies.

NETWORK PRINCIPLES

· The network is informally structured and is coordinated by a working team of four who are elected of the members of the network. This appointment is effective for one year. · The network values the diversity in educational efforts. · The members are organizations or individuals in Indonesia that perform human rights educational efforts, or organizations that have a planned effort to conduct such efforts. · Members agree to share their educational materials with other network members as much as possible. · The membership is voluntary and open to all. · Meetings are conducted based on necessities (temporarily only with members who reside in Jakarta). · The working team is formed based on collaboration activities that are agreed upon beforehand.

EDUCATIONAL PRINCIPLES

· The network adopts a participatory educational method, which is believed to be the most appropriate for human rights education.

FIRST YEAR ACTIVITIES

1. Inventorizing active human rights institutions and educators in Indonesia. 2. Establishing a clearinghouse on human rights education, which is inventoried periodically and which table of content is disseminated to all members to ensure easy access to new information. 3. Analyzing formal education policies (in schools, universities, and governmental institutions) and establishing recommendations or lobbies on such educational efforts. 4. Creating informal network through e-mail communications (throughout Indonesia). An e-mail group list will be created to accelerate communications.

BUDGET

· A budget for the activities approved by the network will be prepared, or partial involvements arrangement will be created to ensure financial burden is divided among members.
