Most people know what their Sun Sign is, and many know the gem
stone that is associated with that sign. But each sign also has
other associations -- colors, metals, animals, and flowers. Many
of these flowers are not really houseplants, but every sign has at
least one plant that can be grown as a houseplant, in a tub on
the patio, or near the window where you can see it blooming.
ARIES
(March 21 - April 19)
Geranium, Honeysuckle, Sweet Pea
Honeysuckle and sweet peas are predominantly garden flowers, but
the Geranium makes an ideal houseplant. It's so
easy to grow and easy to care for. The flowers come in a variety
of colors and make a magnificent display. The geranium was the
1998 Flower of the Year, and it will still be
popular in 1999.
TAURUS
(April 20 - May 20)
Violet, Poppy
Taurus loves violets, and, when speaking of houseplants, of
course, the African violet comes to mind. Pink, white, mauve,
and combination colors. Single, double, even miniature. There
seems to be a never-ending variety. African violet culture
doesn't need to cost a lot. Visit this web site
to find out how to obtain and care for the plants cheaply.
With a bit of care, African violets are easy to grow
and well worth it when they reward you with a pretty display
on your window sill.
GEMINI
(May 21 - June 20)
Lily of the Valley, Lavender Lily of the Valley with it's tiny white flowers,
adds a touch of class to any plant display .
This is the trademark flower of Mercury, and Mercury is the ruler
of Gemini. Lavender, although actually classed as
an herb, is popular for it's delightful fragrance. Add a bit to a
sachet for your linen closet.
CANCER
June 21 - July 22)
Larkspur, Acanthus
Larkspur is grown mostly in the garden. The Acanthus, however, although too large for most homes, does
well on the patio in a large tub. It's also known as the < HREF="http://www.streetside.com/plants/floridata/ref/r/ruellia.htm">Mexican Petunia.
LEO
(July 23 - August 22)
Suunflower, Marigold
Leo is the Summer sign. It's ruled by the sun, and, therefore,
loves the colors yellow and gold. What could be more golden than
a row of sunflowers towering above the garden fence. However,
you would need a really large home to grow sunflowers indoors.
Marigolds, however, and especially
pot marigolds, fill a room with their golden glow.

Thanks for your note. And I'm sorry about the African violets. I was trying to equate the flowers for the signs with plants one would grow in the house. I know, too that they are not the same. But ...

You are right about the daffodils (jonquil) for pisces. I have more of them around my garden than any other spring flower. I have even learned to keep them from year to year which is quite an accomp ...
