Oh, You Dirty Skunk!
If your clothes are sprayed you can soak them in this solution, but remember the peroxide may cause discoloration. One user says it also works when her dog has rolled in dead fish or other unknown things. OTHER SOLUTIONS: # Cake style odor neutralizers are available at most hardware stores. These will work well inside your car or home. # Lemon Juice - Pour or spray it directly on the site. (Just a warning though, lemon juice is acidic and could stain etc. clothing, furniture etc.) I understand that the results are instant. # Vanilla - Place pure vanilla on a cotton ball in a small saucer. Place the saucer in the car or refrigerator to remove odors. It is reported to remove even skunk odors. Keep the cottonball out of reach of children; vanilla has a high alcohol content. #Douche - Tricotine Liquid Douche Concentrate or any over-the-counter douche product. These can be purchased at 24 hour convenience stores. They are effective and are mild enough to use on your dog's face. Tricotine works especially well; just mix it as directed and apply to your dogs' coat, scrub, rinse, and repeat. # Bleach -To remove residual skunk odor from your clothes and any towels or rags used in this clean up procedure, wash them with one cup of liquid laundry bleach per gallon of water. # Organic solutions - To make your own on-the-spot deskunk remedy, look for mild, acidic ingredients. The best choice is a mild, acid-based detergent, such as those made for washing wool. Infinity Heavenly Horsetail is one brand with a pH of 4.5, no synthetic perfume, and it works wonderfully. A rinse made of a mixture of 2/3 water and 1/3 organic apple cider vinegar could work, too, but make sure not to get such acidic ingredients in the dog's eyes. # Quick emergency solution - If you are out in the woods, and need to tone down the odor to a bearable level, you might try "mudding" your dog. Mix mud and water and completely cover the dog. When the mud dries, peel it from the dog's coat
