Bless this HouseMany homes have decorative prayers hanging on the walls. Some are hand embroidered, painted, or framed prints. My pastor has a hand crocheted version of The Lord's Prayer in his dining room. Our home is a good location for these prayers as many personal prayers come from within the walls of our homes. These prayers can vary from the light and whimsical to the serious. We often see kitchen prayers that bring a smile to those who read them. Perhaps some people consider these prayers hanging on their walls to be only a part of the decorations. But others take them seriously. Where better to be reminded to pray than in our own home. We spend more time in our kitchens than we do in church or other religious institutions. If we need prayer anywhere it is here where we and our families live. Some are simple: Bless this kitchen, LORD, Let it be a place where we can meet Some will be a bit more lengthy: Lord make this Irish kitchen It seems the Irish had a prayer for everything and perhaps because of their frequent humorous twist they are popular for plaques and prints. You can see ones like this in many a home that isn't even Irish: "May those that love us, Love Us. There are prayers for the household: Replace our pride with humbleness Please guard our thoughts that enter in Tear down these walls that keep us all Come stand within this empty house We give you, Lord, our broken home
