Only 365 Shopping Days 'Til Christmas
Ok, the last thing you want to be thinking about right now is Christmas Shopping for next year. But one of the best times to buy Christmas items is the day after Christmas. If you want a good deal on Christmas cards, trims, decorations, or anything else Christmas they will be on sale right after the holiday. This is also the time to start looking for sweaters, winter coats, and winter accessories. You can pick up some nice things to wear this winter as well as stock up on some very nice sweaters for gift giving next winter. The main thing to remember is to choose classic colors and styles. Don't buy something that may prove to be a very temporary fad or it may be totally out of style by next year. Watch for sales throughout the year. If you find something that would be perfect for someone and it is on sale in February - buy it.
Create a special spot in a closet, under the bed, wherever you can find a little extra room. Keep all gifts bought ahead of time together so you don't lose track of them throughout the year. It is also a good idea to keep a list of the things that have been bought, as well as things you need, so you don't end up buying eight things for Aunt Ivy and nothing for Cousin Jim. As you buy something for someone mark them off. If you hear someone mention something they would like, write it down so you will remember later. Are you taking a vacation this year? Many times you will be able to find something unique and different while away from home. Don't feel you have to present these gifts the moment you get home. Put them away for a special surprise when the holidays come around again. Do you have someone on your gift-giving list that loves gardening? Shop for them during the summer of when things go on sale in the fall. You may not be able to find gardening things in December.
Some people try to buy a few things each month to spread the cost of gifts out over the year. They also suggest having all of your gift buying done before Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving prices tend to be higher and the frantic pace creates an atmosphere in which over buying and impulse buying is encouraged. Other expenses seem to come along during the end of November and through December. We buy special foods, entertain guests, maybe we have the carpet cleaned or the send the drapes to the dry cleaner. Whatever your expenses are you have enough places for your money to go without buying gifts right now.
