Baking Soda

ARM & HAMMER® suggests taking their Baking Soda along on your camping trip. Among the uses are as a dish washer, pot scrubber, hand cleanser, deodorant, toothpaste, and fire extinguisher.

Some other summer Baking Soda uses:
• Dust on underarms as a deodorant.
• Dampen into a paste and use as a poultice to relieve the pain of a bee sting.
• Windburns: moisten some baking soda and apply directly.
• Wash out thermos bottles and cooling containers with soda and water to get rid of stale smells.
• Sprinkle soda on barbecue grills, let soak, and then rinse off. For tough, greasy stains, scrub with a wire brush and a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part warm water.
• Deodorize tennis shoes, socks, boots and slippers. Before putting the shoes away, freshen them up by sprinkling baking soda in them. This is especially effective for sneakers and running shoes. GOOD IDEA- Put baking soda in a salt shaker and keep near your shoes.
• Freshen and deodorize your camper's water tank by flushing with 1 cup baking soda dissolved in 1 gallon warm water. Drain and flush the tank before refilling. The baking soda will eliminate stale odors and help remove mineral build-up that makes water taste off.
• Fishing and camping gear can be cleaned and deodorized by using a solution of 4 tablespoons baking soda in 1 quart warm water. Sprinkle baking soda into golf bags and gym bags to deodorize.
• Golf irons can be cleaned without scratching by using a paste of 3 parts baking soda to 1 part water and a brush. Rinse thoroughly.
• Improve your pool's clarity with baking soda. Learn more about using ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda in your pool.
• Musty Towels will smell fresh if you add 1/2 cup baking soda to the rinse cycle.

Together

• Sprinkle weeds on the sidewalk or driveway with baking soda. Let sit 30 - 45 minutes, pour on some vinegar. Rinse with fresh water the next day.
• Put the grill down into the BBQ and sprinkle liberally with baking soda. Add enough vinegar to cover, put the lid on, and let sit over night. Flush with clean water the next day - most of the burned on stuff should be gone!
• If baking soda alone doesn't get rid of the foul odor of smelly sneakers/running shoes, try baking soda and vinegar together.
• Use a poultice of baking soda and vinegar on bug bites.
