Bathroom Tips

An open window can help, 'though it isn't as effective as a vent. If you can't install a vent, use latex paint on the walls that contains ingredients that help to kill mildew. Keep everything wiped down and dried off after showering. Tip : Keep a squeegee in the shower so everyone can wipe it down when they are done.

Sweating Toilet - This is actually a fairly simple fix. The moisture is actually condensation caused by cold water in the toilet drawing moisture from the warm bathroom air. This is why the problem is usually worse in the summer. Home improvement or hardware stores sell a kit that allows you to mix a small amount of warm water with that going into the toilet tank.

Are you looking for cleaning tips that will keep your bathroom clean and fresh smelling without harming the environment or breaking your budget? Check out these tips from All About Home:

The Sink
• Rub light stains with a fresh cut lemon.
• Dark stains (like rust) can be rubbed with a paste of borax and lemon juice.
• Make a stainless steel sink sparkle by wiping with vinegar or a touch of oil on a cloth.
• Rubbing alcohol will shine chrome and glass.

Bathtub Rings
• Don't use oily bath preparations.
• Use a water softener if you live in a hard-water area.
• Rinse the tub immediately after bathing.
• If a ring does form, wipe it off with undiluted ammonia while wearing rubber gloves. Or use a wet sponge sprinkled generously with baking soda. Rinse clean and wipe dry. Use automatic dishwashing detergent to scour more stubborn stains, or rub with a cloth dipped in vinegar.

Caulk
• Rubbing alcohol will clean the caulking around bathtubs. • Clean caulk by using liquid chlorine bleach (1/4 cup to one gallon).

Toilet Bowl
• Keep the toilet bowl clean while you're away by pouring in 1/4 cup bleach and leaving it until you return.
• To keep the toilet bowl ring-free, pour a half-gallon of white vinegar in it once a month. Let it soak overnight before flushing.
• If you're using a tank-held cleaner that's released when the toilet is flushed, do not use bleach. The two may cause a chemical reaction.
• Pour one cup baking soda down the bowl weekly to avoid clogging and odors.

Drain
Pour 1/4 to 1/2 box of baking soda down the drain, add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Cover the drain tightly
