Getting Children to Eat Right

Children live in many households today. Eating right is important for anyone, but especially for children. Children are growing, and if they get in a habit of eating healthy, it might stick with them throughout their lives. With the fast food and junk food markets rising each day, it's difficult to have your child eat a proper meal. However, it's certainly possible.

Most children enjoy variety. They get bored eating the same thing all of the time - except pizza or Mac n Cheese. Add some variety into the meals. Use different fruits and vegetables. Children often like it when you make shapes out of veggies. Ask them what kind of shapes they would like.

Encourage the trying once rule. Have each child try something new one time. If they really don't like it, they don't have to eat it again. Be an example by eating right and trying new foods.

Have children help you plan meals. Explain to them that they need to eat in balance. It also helps if they know why it's essential to eat right. Strong bones, healthy teeth, healthy skin, less fat, feel good, less illnesses, and healthy bodies are all excellent reasons.

When preparing meals, you can ask children to participate. They can assist you in mixing, sorting, cleaning, and more. Older children can read cooking directions and even help cut (supervision is necessary). Make preparing food a time to educate and talk.

Instead of having junk food around, keep fresh fruits and vegetables instead. They will find these tasty and it's a lot healthier than a bag of chips or cookies.

Make meal times as relaxed as possible. Don’t rush children to eat in a big hurry or argue all throughout the meal. A calm environment will reassure children to eat and help them look forward to eating.

If you follow these steps, you’ll have children eating right slowly but surely.
