All kinds of people work at home more than ever. Many of us have home businesses, telecommuting, or doing freelance work. Here are some essentials to your home office to maintain a good working environment.
The home office should be a place in your house where you can have some quiet. If possible, have a separate room with a door. You will be working a lot and will need time and space to concentrate. Make sure there are windows and adequate light in this area as well. Having plants in your office helps liven your spirits. A computer, printer, fax machine, and steady Internet connection are essential for work at home. Reliable computers can be found at reasonable prices. Dell, Compaq, and Gateway have suitable computers for good prices. It isn’t necessary to have the fastest computer. A 600 MHz with lots of memory will definitely suit most people’s needs. High-speed Internet connections can help your job also. DSL, ADSL, and cable modems have all dropped in price. If you are going to be working over the Internet, then I highly suggest looking into these connections. Getting a two-line speakerphone will also help your working environment. The speaker capability allows you to do other things while being on the phone. Two phone lines are great because you can designate one line for personal use only and the other for business use. Try to purchase one with speed dialing. Speed dialing can make your life so much easier. Having a desk of your own is another important factor in a home business. There are desks with several drawers and places for your computer equipment. Select a desk that is good and fits nicely in your office. Sometimes second hand shops have nice home office furniture at ideal prices. Filing cabinets and bookshelves can assist you with paper and book storage. They also look very nice in your office. Avoid using manila envelopes for storing items in a filing cabinet, except in the case of maintaining past tax records. One often forgets what they placed in the envelope. Go through your filing cabinet monthly to throw out any trash or things you don’t need anymore.
