Why Disco (And Not House)

We need to really find a better way of getting the music out of the companies who own them and into the consumer/dj hands to curb bootlegging. At the same time, we need a system that makes it easier for a dj to be creative and make that remix and license the track from the companies rather than the current "fuck it I'm gonna steal it anyway" mentality.

We also need to get back to the SONG with vocals. Rarely will a track sell in the numbers needed to make it work. We, the DJs have shot ourselves in our own foots in a lot of ways. As we all compete to try and get that rare 12" that's gonna make us stick out from the herd this week, we have ended up with an industry that considers total sales of 3000 units as break even. That's sad. Artists, producers and every one involved need to get paid on these projects. No wonder artists also jump into other genres in order to make rent. Not 10 years ago a good single was moving 10,000 units at least. It seems we have less successes (Stardust) and more almost made its. Don't get me wrong, I think there is some wonderful music coming out nowadays.

But with technology making everyone a producer and artist, there seems to be a glut of music too.

I could go on but just consider these as mindless wanderings of an old fart who has lived through a majority of the dance music industry's history in the USA. Sadly we seem to keep on making the same mistakes. And then there is the underground core of us who believe SO MUCH in the music that we strive to get up the next morning thinking, "maybe this is the day." Maybe today we will discover that magic formula that we can share with the world so that everyone else will feel what we feel and then...finally...they get it.
