New House Record Reviews by D.J. Andre Collins - The Warehouse

Sometimes I'm Blue - Nick Holder - K7

This jazzy tune will have you taping your feet and shaking your head in no time. It's definitely an early morning tune. (Very 5:00 til 5:30 am tune). The lyrics are a sample from one of the most legendary jazz singings of our time, Ms. Carmen McRae. For those of you who are too young to have heard of her, buy this record and then ask you Mama!!

Stay - Mica Paris - Cool Tiempo

Originally done by Sylvester Stewart of Sly & the Family Stone, this remake will truly blow you away. Booker T's vocal lick remixed version supplies enough energy to this tune that it demands a full dance floor: immediately. He has a way of taking a standard R&B tune and creating a pandemonium mix. I strongly suggest this tune be played to a full dance floor. And if it's not full, put in on and watch the magic happen.

Higher - Vernessa Mitchell - Silk Entertainment For those of you fortunate enough to get a hold of the Unreleased Limited Edition Sampler by Steve (Silk) Hurley and Kelly G. at the Winter Music Conference, hold on to it for dear life. The sampler will not be released to the public. Not only is (higher), which is a gospel inspired song on this piece of vinyl, but you also get CC Peniston (He Loves Me 2), as well as two mixes of (Go Down Mosses) by Kelly G. and Sharon Pass. Sorry, if you don't have it, you'll have to wait for the album and you to shall be blessed. Trust Me!!!

So Glad - Love Journey - Feat. Latanza Waters - Strickly Rhythm

If you were luckily enough to get one of the hundred white labels from Davey Gold at Strickly, then you'll know what I mean when I say (You Better Work). I like all three mixes but I prefer the anthem mix. Latanza Waters brings church straight to the dance floor. E-Smooth, who is responsible for the production and mix brings house and gospel together the right way. So if you don't have this one yet, get out and buy it. You won't waste any time playing this for your crowd.

It's Over Now - Deborah Cox - White Label (Arista)

Don't get confused, you want to get THE RETRO-FUTURE MIX PART TWO. Yes, the first mix, part one is good, but this mix is MAJOR. Hex Hector really brought it together. [Props to you my brother]. I like to hear more of Hex's work going in this direction. This version incorporates samples from the PHILADELPHIA CLASSIC HIT "Bad Luck" original done by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes feat. Teddy Pendergrass. It gives Ms. Cox the soulful sound that she rightfully deserves.
