New Record Releases and Inside Paradise Garage

Once again here we go on that Magic Carpet Ride in to the Paradise Garage by D.J.'s Rene Hewitt and Louie Gorbea

Speaking of "Magic Carpet Ride" this is the same group that brought you "Who Is He And What Is He To You?," Creative Source. This is one of those records that is roughly 18 minutes of non-boring music. If you play this record today, your response on the dance floor would still be "ooouz and ahhhz". "Who Is He and What Is He To You," was produced with outstanding rhythm and bass guitars arrangements. Towards the middle of the record the tracks becomes nice and smooth with the vocal background chanting "Who is he, and what is he to you? After a few more bars of the chorus, you are suddenly mesmerized by a voice like the legendary Barry White singing, "...and when I look at you girl, you just pass me by". If your a D.J. playing classic's or just a listener, this is definitely a record that must be played. This high powered funky, arousing, and heart-stomping record was re-released in 1998. Could you just imagine what the dance floor was like at the Garage?

Next on the agenda was a breath-taking moment for my eyes. It was the night the Diva of Divas, Grace Jones performed "Feel Up". There was so much tension in the air, you could feel the shiver throughout your body. First of all, you knew something major was going on because the curtains on the stage were drawn.

Show time!!! The room went silent. Then all the lights are turned out and all you hear is the beating of a drum, not just any drum but the drum of madness. The curtains are opening slowly and your eyes are focused on some sort of neon, something that you couldn't quite figure out because of the illusion created by the darkness of the stage. You're trying to figure out what the @#$%@&* is going on up there. You know Grace is coming on, but again the illusion created is making things mystical. Before you know it the music is gradually getting louder along with the lights getting brighter, creating an affect on this weird neoned figure. The lights are dimmed again and the neon shadow miraculously appears to be Grace Jones' painted body sitting on top of a huge bass drum and beating it to the rhythm of "Feel It". You and everyone gage!!! Grace Jones' body is painted in neon by the masterful art of Keith Harring. The room goes in to a frenzy. People are screaming in disbelief as Grace commands your attention to "Feel It". As the song continues you are thrown from one side of sanity to emptiness. Something has happened to everyone witnessing this amazing moment. Grace Jones has done it, she has created damage, brain damage has been inflicted on us all.
