Kharma Productions at Vinyl - New York - Friday, December 11, 1998 What a night to remember, plus the fact that D.J. Ken Carpenter was in the house. It's very seldom that I go to a club and can really say I enjoyed myself. Vinyl, known for its fierce sound system and outstanding parties, opened its doors and promoter Nick Smith of Kharma Productions created an evening full of exciting entertainment. DJs Antonio and Carlos Sanchez opened for the Warehouse's resident DJ Andre Collins. When I arrived, Antonio was on the turntables setting the mood. Twenty minutes later it seemed like the room went up in flames. The lights started to dance like crazy and so did its technician, Ariel. I thought only DJs jumped up and down and danced, but Ariel put on a show of his own. This guy really knows how to work Vinyl's lighting system. I know for a fact that Ariel does a lot of traveling and recently was in Japan working with Little Louie Vega. It was really exciting to see the DJs and the light technician working together.

When Andre attacked the turntables it seemed like some sort of magical force took over the entire club. Andre is known for dominating the dance floor and taking full control of the sound system. His mixes were superb, which compels me to say that there was one of several records that drove everyone crazy. It was Tribute by Soul Ascendants on Nuphonic Records, which had a fierce instrumental throughout this entire record. The record picks you up with its heavy baseline and monumental vocals. The reaction on the dance floor had these people screaming because Andre made you feel like you're thrown across the dance floor, onto the stage and in to the DJ booth. What a way to go. Whew. I was in the booth with Joey, Cook and James stomping our feet and acting crazy. The Ascendants is one record that will not be overlooked. I asked Andre are there any records in particular that he likes, and this is what he had to say.

Show You The Way To Go - Rmx - Kenny Bobien- Soundmen On Wax Records Watch out for this label in 1999. This is one of the most intense remixes I've heard this year. They have added the right touch to an already great song. Adding the instrumental break from New Colors "Special Kind Of Lover" and bringing in Kenny's vocal at the right time make this a must for any DJ's dance floor. So don't sleep on it.
