DJ René's House Reviews II 11/16/98

Planetary - Treat Me Right - Planetary Vocal Mix - Kult Records Planetary says "Come On Treat Me Right" and that's what you should be doing with this funky dance record. On the 'Vocal Mix,' Planetary sings "what I need is security". She's probably referring to a personal life, but she's definitely secured herself a spot on the charts. Wait until the middle track introduces a jazzy electronic piano that compliments those solid vocals. This one gets a 6 out of 10. Turntables: DJs: You have another great record here. Work Planetary and pump up the bass.

Judy - C12 Feat. Jole Side C first cut - Benji Candelario remix Kult Records -This powerful tune has old school flare, but the electronics, bass line and vocals make the tracks decidedly current. This is a skillfully produced record indeed. Audience response to this one has been very good. Check out the remix by Benji Candelario and sing along with the catchy refrain: "Judy was, Judy was, Judy was a friend indeed". Between 1-10, I give this one 6.5. Turntables: The DJ makes this record happen. Try playing one four seconds behind the other or layer the voice that says Judy on top of itself.

I Am Somebody - Deep Swing Feat. A7, Side A #One - Cricco Castelli re-mix Kult Records On the A side cut, the male vocal is powerful, and is supported by such amazing tracks that I couldn't believe my ears. The driving beat picks up the dance floor. I missed this version the first time around because I was so busy focusing on the version behind it. This is a re-release done some time ago and edited by Cricco Castelli who has done a superb job. The tracks are hard hitting and mean. "I Am Somebody" has it going on. I give it a 7 out of 10. Turntables: DJs: You definitely need two copies.

I Am Somebody - Tobi One re-mix cut 2. Catch this. When I first heard this version, I said "wow". The female lead on this record is fierce. This girl can sing her ass off, and wait until she gets going with the male vocal and the strong bass tracks that accompany them both. The background is righteous, enhanced by powerful strings and high hats. This is heart thumping, hand clapping, bounce-me-off-the-DJ-booth music. This record is for those of you from the old "Better Days" era. This one gets an 8. Turntables: Do a Paradise Garage number of this one. Don't let the record end.
