SOUNDMEN On WAX Records issues B.O.P. Entertainment - Presents a "Rendition of Soul". Here it is, a two record set consisting of Kenny Bobien, Donna Montgomery, Dawn Tallman and Ricky Nelson. SOUNDMEN On WAX was very smart issuing these two 12" 45's as one package from their new location - 141 Fulton Street, N.Y. Kenny Bobien, a name that has been on d.j.'s turntables for some time, has done it again. "Let Me Show You" carries an energizing and upbeat tempo throughout the tracks on this 12". Kenny's voice is superb. He is crystal clear accented by some great background vocals. If you like a full funky tune, go out and get this one. Turntables: Jocks, if you have two copies of this, the break is a definite introduction for playing. Its soulful sound and the bass? Catching. The record leaves enough room for long mixing, for those of you who create such sound. This one I recommend for the dance floor. Donna Montgomery, "Go Head Go On". The male vocal up front on this tune makes you want to say ahhhhhhh. This is Donna's first record release, and I must say I enjoy listening to her voice. She has a spark like the flame of a fire in her voice. Combine this quality, good writing, and excellent tracks, and Donna will be around for some time. B.O.P. knew what they were doing when they took her in to the studio. Her background vocals are an ace. When you hear Donna reach those towering notes, it makes you want say 'go girl'. Turntable: Try playing two of these at once. There are so many things you can do with these tracks. The single will be out in a couple of weeks and remixed by B.O.P. Ricky Nelson, "Work It Out". Ricky's first release was "Keep On", and now he's back on the turntables. So many d.j.'s miss the essence of vocals and gear toward the instrumentals. I have nothing against instrumentals. As a matter of fact, I have some fierce instrumentals lined up for future review. But vocals have such a value to them. They tell you a story as well as give you a need to make you dance and sing. That's why the stream of this tune is right on time. As some of the words say, "lift every voice and sing". That's exactly what you'll do, sing. A snazzy song with a kick to it, is what I enjoy and you will to. SOUNDMEN On WAX picked another goodie. Turntables: Jocks catch the break on this one. You'll definitely need two copies. The single will be out soon remixed by B.O.P. Dawn Tallman;"I Got It Like That". Here she is. With background vocals full of professional studio work, this record keeps movin and movin and movin. The bass line is pretty strong, accompanied by horns and guitar. Dawn, I know you're going places, so keep it up. The one thing I like about this sound is its smoothness. You can have an upbeat record but sometimes you need to capture you audience with a record like this. Turntable: The break on this one is even but exciting.
