Hot Peppers and Tomatoes - July Tips.per day. I was wondering if you have any tips to help me. I have only 2 tomato plants left and don't want to loose them. I am a "rookie" gardener starting tomatoes from seeds, but have been growing peppers for over 5 years(2 years starting from seed). My peppers, which I planted 2 months ago are around 3 to 4 inches high and I am starting to harden off now. I am a 50-50 container gardener(half in containers and half in my garden) with my peppers and have had a lot of luck with all varieties of late. Now here's the Recipe.... Spicy Turkey Chili Sauté 1 large yellow onion and 4 cloves of garlic in a large sauce pan using 2 tablespoons of olive oil(I like to use a pepper infused oil). When onion is transparent add 1 LB of ground turkey(or chicken). While turkey is cooking add 2 seeded and sliced habanero peppers, 1 tablespoon of ground cumin, 1 tablespoon of dark chili powder and a pinch of salt(remember to taste as you go for your own desired satisfaction). When turkey is cooked, no longer pink, add 1 medium can of Crushed Tomatoes and 1 medium can of diced tomatoes(I use my own canned tomatoes when available). Then add 1 can of Kidney Beans and 1 can of Garbanzo Beans(strained and washed). Bring to a boil and simmer 30 minutes to an hour. Remember to taste and add some seasoning(chili powder, cumin and salt) as needed. While serving garnish with shredded cheese, diced onions and sliced Jalapenos. Thanks for your help and Keep the Heat... Eric Blashka Hi Eric, Your recipe sounds delicious..I hope it finds its way into the newsletter. The gro-lite is 'cooking' your tomato plants. It may be too close. The lite is great to heat up the soil but start our with a few hours a day and then add on gradually. Great Gardening, Pepper Joe O.K. Suite 101 folks, It's time to go.
