They will go after the yeast and drown in the beer. You can sprinkle a little salt on them directly to get them under control earlier. They hide under rocks, garden debris, etc to avoid the direct sun. The Tomato sounds like a nutritional defiency. Try feeding every 2 weeks with my favorite fertilizer, fish emuslion. The shriveled leaves sound like aphids or the flea beetle. They typically don't affect the health of the plant too much. Spray with 1 tsp. of dishsoap added to a spray bottle filled with water. Aphids are hard to spot so pick off a leaf and inspect closely. Another signs of aphids is seeing ants at the base and along the plants stems as they 'herd' the aphids for the plants sap that is in their bellies, much as we herd cows for milk. Smart ants, huh?
