Ponderings

Jan 6, 2000 - © Marta Towne

You know, horses are wonderful creatures. They give us pleasure in so many different ways. They take us places we want to go, both physically and mentally, they provide a great ear for when we need to talk. They never judge us or make snide comments. They act happy to see us no matter how late we are or how bad our mood is. THey are a great comfort when we are hurting, they seem to laugh with us when we are happy.

Reena is my horse. Some of you remember my talking about her. She had a bad start in life, but now she couldn't have it better. I have had a horse before, but Reena, she is special. She thinks more than any horse I have ever seen. She considers how I feel, and changes her attitude in accordance. When I am sad, she stands there and lets me cry, listening. She may not understand my words, but my feeling get through just fine. When I am happy, she cavorts life a foal. Anyone who has ever thought Arabians were serious, refined creatures never saw Reena bucking in the field. She leaps and twists and throws her heels up until I am breathless with laughter! When I am angry, I know I can talk to her and she won't make light of it or send me off to cool down. I can tell Reena things that would never say to anyone, and I can trust her never to pass them on!

And people want to know what I see in horses? Gee, I don't know....a friend that is always on my side, never tells secrets or talks behind my back; someone who listens and stands by me in good times and hard times; someone who makes me laugh....Why would anyone want that?
