Darq Knight Dreamer© Marta Towne
I'll tell you guys something right now, babies grow fast! Especially baby horses. Let's talk about Darq Knight Dreamer, the only colt born here this year. He is all boy: proud, strong and totally full of himself! He thinks he is top of the line. The other day, he was running in the pasture with the other foals, playing and having a grand old time, when he slipped and fell down. His long legs gong in four different directions, his whole body spinning out of control looking for all the world like a child's toy top. When he finally came to a stop he looked around to see if anyone had witnessed his embarrassing maneuver. Seeing me standing there watching him (and laughing), he gathered his dignity almost palatably and rose to his feet, he snorted at me as though to say, "I meant to do that!" I have to admit, he was so funny that it took me several minutes to stop laughing. And he was NOT amused to be the cause of my laughter!
Dreamer has more pride than most foals his age. When the vet came to take their blood for the Coggins tests, he was very put out to be held still and stuck with a needle! He felt, quite obviously, that it was beneath his dignity to be treated in such a horrendous manner.! Then, on top of that, we forgot that we meant to have extra blood taken, so he had to be "stuck" twice! You want to talk about upset, Dreamer was not a happy horsey! Putting the halter on him was another instance where Dreamer was insulted! After all the fuss to get it on him and adjusted correctly, he managed to loosen it and we had to go through it all again! Then, for days, he would walk up to one of us and stick his head out to us as though to say, "You have five seconds to remove this!", then, when we didn't comply, he would flip his rear end around to us and kick one leg in out general direction to make sure we realized he was not thrilled with us! Yes, friends, Dreamer is a handful. He is sassy and bold, proud and defiant and yes, all BOY! He can also be very loving and friendly, when he decides to be! He loves to play with the fillies and annoy his mother and the other mares in the pasture. He is into everything and loves to be contrary. I guess you could say (with apologies to Gilbert and Sullivan), he is the "very model of a modern" Arabian Colt! Go To Page: 1
