Darq Knight Dreamer

Let me start out with a little history. Darq Knight Dreamer, Dream as we call him, is the last foal born this season. He kind of snuck up on us! He was not due until April 16, 1999, he decided not to wait. On April 10, we checked his Mom, Shanali about 7 am. She was calmly munching on grain. When I went across the yard at 10 am, there was Dream. Talk about surprised! At first I thought my Mom had put the other black mare Lady and her filly Midknight into the foaling paddock. Then I looked out into the mare's pasture and started counting foals. One...two...THREE! Then I ran into my mom's kitchen and started yelling at her, "Why didn't you tell me????? Why didn't you CALL! How could you let her do that with out telling me!" I was furious, I had seen both the other foals born and I had been determined to see this one! Mom, of course, had no idea what I was babbling about. She finally said, rather loudly, "What on Earth are you yelling about?", to which I replied, still thinking she had known about the foal, "Shanali having her foal , why didn't you CALL me?!?!?!?!""WHAT?????", she yelled as she jumped to her feet and ran for the door, knocking her chair over in her haste to see what I was talking about. We got out there and Shanali was again calmly grazing and the foal, very wobbly and black!, was standing their staring at us as though to say, "What is all the commotion? Can't a guy eat in peace here?"

After a through examination, including his first shot and dipping his navel in Iodine, we determined that our surprise visitor was a born black stud colt. Now for those of you who do not know Arabians, black is a very rare color, and a born black foal of either sex is even more rare. But to have a born black stud colt was something we had never dreamed hope for! Since his mom is named Darq Shanali, and his mom's father is Ali Knight (and he was a dream come true!), we called him Darq Knight Dreamer!

Dream knows he is special, and he never lets us forget it! With in a few hours of his birth, he was showing off for the humans and filly foals like any good litte ego maniac! He is all boy, proud, straight and well aware of his beauty! He is not the leader of our little group, but he probably has the most "out there" personality. Nothing fazes him, but if he does not want to be handled, he simply refuses to be! If you cross him, he makes sure you KNOW he is not amused with you! He talks with his eyes, they are very expressive. He is very gentle, and has not ever bitten any person, not even in play. But there is no doubt that he considers himself the protector of the group! And let me tell you, this colt is nobodies fool! He can see the writing on the wall, and he is smart enough to act on it! A perfect example of an Arabian!
