Inducing a horse to do what you want him to do is primarily a matter of making him aware of what you want and that you won't take no for an answer. Maybe that is what it is with kids, did you ever know a kid that wasn't determined to get their own way. Horses have probably figured out that it is easier to give them what they want then to be pestered about it for who knows how long.
