The Truth about Horses

A horse you have developed a bond with does what you ask because he wants to. And a horse that is doing what he wants learns easier, better, faster and retains it longer. You can get more from a horse who is willing than one that is frightened of you. If the horse is willing, he will not seek escape. One that is being forced, through fear or whatever, will seek escape and take it at the earliest possible time.

Horses can be a dangerous creature, if the rider is not paying attention. And if a horse is allowed to get away with anything one time, it is the same as training him to do it. And it is much easier to train a horse than un-train him. It pays any one who works with an animal as big and strong as a horse to keep one eye on the animal at all times. A lack of concentration can prove to be a costly mistake, not only to you and your horse, but to other horses and riders as well.

So be sure that, when you work with horses, you pay attention and treat the animal with gentleness, trust and love. Be as kind to your horse as you want your horse to be to you. Remember: "to have a friend, you have to be a friend."
