Ocean Terrace: Even if the son of Saint Ballado should capture the Santa Anita Derby for his fourth consecutive victory, no horse with only four outings has won the Kentucky Derby in 85 years.
Buddy Gil: Son of Eastern Echo goes for third straight California win in Santa Anita Derby.
Domestic Dispute: Baffert gives the son of Unbridled's Song another shot after running fifth behind Buddy Gil in the San Felipe, beaten three lengths.
Ministers Wild Cat: Son of Saint Ballado hopes a victory and a second at Golden Gate will put him in contention.
The Blue Grass Stakes field on April 12 at Keeneland will include:
Badge of Silver: Sixth place finish in Louisiana Derby was blamed on a flipped palate after his impressive 10-length victory in the Risen Star Stakes. Surgery followed and this should tell the tale. Last winner of the Blue Grass and Kentucky Derby was Strike the Gold in 1991.
Offlee Wild: Winner of the Holy Bull Stakes finished fourth in the Fountain of Youth Stakes, but missed the Florida Derby because of illness. A good showing probably will decide whether trainer T. V. Smith sends him to the Kentucky Derby. His speed figures, however, need to improve.
Peace Rules: The Louisiana Derby winner will have only two preps after this race. That hasn't worked for any Kentucky Derby participant since Sunny's Halo won in 1983. His dosage profile also says he can't get the 10 furlongs.
Pletcher hasn't decided where to run Lion Tamer after he broke slowly, but finished less than 2 1/2 lengths back in fourth in the Lane's End Stakes at Turfway Park on March 22. However, in his first try at two turns at 1 1/8 miles, the son of Will's Way didn't gain any ground in the stretch and the winning time was moderate.
Trust N Lucky, trounced by Empire Make at Gulfstream Park, is skipping April preps and may be the only contender going straight for the May roses.
