Stable Mail Is Great

Stable Mail, the free Daily Racing Form service on the Internet that notifies you by e-mail when a particular horse you're keeping an eye on works out or is entered to run, has been revamped quite nicely.

There are two ways to add the names of horses to your stable after clicking "Watch My Horse." You enter the exact spelling of a raced thoroughbred or add an unraced juvenile or older horse. There's even a space to makes notes about any horse you're going to monitor.

When adding a horse, you're informed of the sire and dam, plus when the animal was born. It's a big improvement over the old way. In fact, the new Stable Mail (http://www.drf2000.com/home/hdp_cent/sta... warns about possible glitches, such as those encountered by AOL users who forget to put "@aol.com" after their log-in.

The Web site advises, "You need to specify a complete e-mail address without the spaces (i.e., YourLog-in@aol.com). Also remember that your e-mail address should have no spaces in it."

Some of the typical queries include: "I'd like to start using Stable Mail, but every time I fill out the form to establish a stable I never receive the confirmation e-mail. What am I doing wrong?"

When I encountered the same problem (even though I use Netscape) and asked what to do, I received this e-mail: "We went ahead and confirmed your account from our end, so it is now ready to use." What service!

Stable Mail also suggests: "If you did not receive a confirmation e-mail after filling out the form, you need to go back and fill out the form again and make sure you enter your e-mail address correctly. If you enter your e-mail address correctly and you or your ISP isn't blocking e-mail from Daily Racing Form, you will receive your confirmation e-mail within two minutes of submitting the form."

My confirmation took until the next day. Not too shabby.
