No doubt the star of Saturday's sixth annual Summit of Speed at Calder Race Course is undefeated Lost in the Fog.

The 3-year-old, once a Triple Crown prospect, is a confirmed sprinter that has registered seven consecutive victories. The Florida-bred son of Lost Soldier worked five furlongs in 1:00 2/5 on June 30 at Golden Gate Fields before making the coast-to-coast Saturday flight to Miami.

The colt, trained by Greg Gilchrist, will be heavily favored to take the $300,000 Carry Back Stakes for sophomores at six furlongs. He has an impressive record, posting six victories with Hall of Fame jockey Russell Baze aboard.

However, Baze fractured a collarbone at Golden Gate Fields three days before the $200,000 Riva Ridge at Belmont and Edgar Prado got the mount. Baze watched on TV at home when Lost in the Fog turned back the challenge from Egg Head by 1 ¼ lengths.

"At one point, it looked like they were going to challenge him, but whenever I've been on him, I always knew I had enough horse to turn back a challenge," said Baze, only several hundred victories behind the record 9,530 wins posted by retired Laffit Pincay Jr. "It was the first time everyone else got to see what I always knew he had."

"He (Lost in the Fog) galloped this morning and that's pretty much what he'll do all week," Gilcrest said Monday. "He won't have anything like a recorded workout. We're very happy to have Russell (Baze) back to ride him. He's been cleared to ride three mounts a day starting

Lost in the Fog, who will break from post 5, faces four locally based 3-year-olds, including Dazzling Dr. Cevin and Hot Space, plus Louisiana invader Crawfish King in the Grade 2 event,.

Saturday's 13-race card, which features eight stakes worth a total of $1.9 million, includes the:

$500,000 Smile Sprint Handicap at six furlongs for 3-years-old and up: It appears a wide-open race with 10 horses entered. High weight is Don Six, 118 pounds, who has won 10 of 28 races.

The Florida-bred 5-year-old, who drew the outide post in the 10-horse field, captured the Longfellow Stakes wire-to-wire at Monmouth Park on June 11. Earlier, he placed in three graded stakes: the General George at Laurel, Carter Handicap at Aqueduct and the Bold Ruler at Belmont.

Other contenders in the Grade 2 race are Woke Up Dreamin, post 4, winner of the North Breeders' Cup on Belmont Stakes Day, and Silver Wagon, post 2, the Calder-based runner-up to Ghostzapper in the Met Mile at Belmont on May 30.
