Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)
While many American moviegoers and critics have said Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is the greatest Hong Kong action movie ever made, it is perhaps unfair to heap such a great honor upon it. Both of the first Once Upon A Time in China movies boast more great fight sequences and overall higher quality action, and they are also both great films from other perspectives such as plot and production values. Even so, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a landmark film in the genre and should boost the number of subtitled, Hong Kong action movies that arrive in North American theaters. With its astronomical box office gross and success with critics, Asian film companies will be less reluctant to release their movies in subtitled versions, which benefits Hong Kong action fans in the United States and Canada.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is now available on both DVD and VHS.
