There is an innovative fight scene inside of an elevator shaft, which works well and provides some high quality entertainment. The entire finale of the movie contains numerous impressive fight sequences and plenty of action. Hitman has slightly more action than Li's Romeo Must Die (2000), but much less than movies such as Once Upon A Time in China II (1992) and Fong Sai Yuk (1993). Nevertheless, it never drags and maintains a good pace throughout.

The music in Hitman is appropriate and modern, but not especially memorable like the score for Fong Sai Yuk. There are no incredibly unrealistic fight scenes in Hitman and there is little wirework, so some Hong Kong action movie fans that do not particularly appreciate Li's superhuman stunts in his past movies are likely to enjoy the 1998 production. Hitman is necessary viewing for any serious fans of Hong Kong action and is highly recommended for any action movie fans in general. The combination of a good story, intriguing characters, enjoyable humor, and good action is explosive.
